60 Reasons to Protest: Reason #51 – Noise Sharing
Related to today’s news media frenzy about Airservices proposing flight path change options is protest reason #51: Airservices rejecting the communtiy’s demands for actual net reductions and instead proposing (AND already adopting!) noise sharing as their preferred option.
While Airservices keep saying this is apparently widely supported by the community, we beg to differ. There is no evidence that this is widely supported at all as the very first go-to “solution.” It MAY be an option as part of a suite of noise abatement strategies and net reductions of flight path noise.
BFPCA has produced an explainer video demonstrating why noise sharing comes with risks for communities: While it may sound appealing to have noise simply shifted elsewhere onto other communities, Brisbane Airport’s aggressive growth strategy means that any reprieve is short-lived. Communities under the Legacy flight paths know this already: Prior to 2020, they were told lies by BAC and Airservices about how the New Parallel Runway will be great for shifting the noise away from them and onto new suburbs. Yet, what we experience now is that BOTH Legacy & NPR communities are stuck in Brisbane Airport’s noise sewer as BAC ramps up towards a capacity of 110 flights AN HOUR (!).
Watch the video and read the explanation we have provided on the BFPCA website.
